Microsoft Outlook Express - version 6.x - Entry Overview

Field Corresponding Entry
Email/Reply to address: sample@mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(sample = the specific address at your domain name)
Incoming (POP3) mail server: pop.mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(If you would like to access your mail via an IMAP client, you will need to use imap.mydomain as the IMAP server)
User/Account name: sample@mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(If you are using a mail client, such as Netscape, that does not allow you to use the "@" symbol in the User/Account name field, you may substitute the "@" in your address with the "_" character. For example: username_mydomain)
Password: password
(password = the password you chose for that email address)
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(no username or password are required for outgoing mail)

Step by Step Setup Instructions

To setup a new e-mail account:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Go to Tools then Accounts/Mail
  3. Click on New/Mail
  4. In the Display Name field enter Your Name
  5. In the E-mail Address field enter: sample@mydomain.com
    (sample = the specific address at your domain name)
  6. Verify that the Server Type is set to POP3
  7. In the POP Server Name box enter: pop.mydomain.com
    (replace mydomain.com with your unique domain name)
  8. In the SMTP Server box enter: smtp.mydomain.com
    (replace mydomain.com with your unique domain name)
  9. Verify your login name is in the Account Name field
  10. Enter your Password in lowercase in the password box
  11. Click Finish, then Close
  12. You are now ready to send and receive e-mail
