Microsoft Outlook Express - version 5.x - Entry Overview

Field Corresponding Entry
Email/Reply to address: sample@mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(sample = the specific address at your domain name)
Incoming (POP3) mail server: pop.mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(If you would like to access your mail via an IMAP client, you will need to use imap.mydomain as the IMAP server)
User/Account name: sample@mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(If you are using a mail client, such as Netscape, that does not allow you to use the "@" symbol in the User/Account name field, you may substitute the "@" in your address with the "_" character. For example: username_mydomain)
Password: password
(password = the password you chose for that email address)
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.mydomain.com (or .net, .org, etc.)
(no username or password are required for outgoing mail)

Step by Step Setup Instructions

To set up a new e-mail account:
  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Go to Tools and then Accounts
  3. Click on the Mail tab
  4. Click Add and then Mail
  5. Type in you full name, then click Next
  6. Choose I already have an email address that I’d like to use
  7. Enter your email address: sample@mydomain.com, in lowercase, then click Next
    (sample = the specific address at your domain name)
  8. The Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 (not IMAP or HTTP)
  9. For Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server enter pop.mydomain.com, in lowercase
    (replace mydomain.com with your unique domain name)
  10. For Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server enter smtp.mydomain.com, in lowercase, then click Next
    (replace mydomain.com with your unique domain name)
  11. For Account Name enter your username in all lowercase
  12. For Password enter your password in all lowercase
  13. Do not check Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
  14. Click Finish
